The Fruit of Good News
By Werner Vos

When John heard in prison what Christ was doing, he sent his disciples to ask him, "Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?"  Jesus replied, "Go back and report to John what you hear and see: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.’  (Matthew 11:2-5)

From 11-13th August 2007, the Bulawayo International Church of Christ hosted a marrieds retreat for both the Harare and Bulawayo disciples.  This powerful event was held at the Maleme Dam in the Matopos Hills. A total of 10 couples from Bulawayo and 35 couples from Harare attended the retreat.

Harare teen ministry shines

Ball 1

In spite of the economic challenges of our country and the mass exodus of disciples to the Diaspora, God has been working in amazing ways in the church in Harare.

The theme of our 2007 Kids Camp was "Soldiers of Christ".  There were about 43 kids in attendance at the camp as well as 15 counsellors, workers, a sports teacher and health professionals. As this was our first time to hold a Kids Camp, we decided to limit those invited to disciples’ kids and relatives.
Durban Youth Corps initiative brings tremendous joy to orphans

danceA few years ago a brother, Thembinkosi Ngema, with the help of the Durban Church started supporting The Agape orphanage in Waterfall, Kloof. The children are placed there as a result of the effects of HIV and Aids in the community – either abandoned or orphaned. An overseas company supports the orphanage financially but with between 40 and 50 children, they are always in need of a helping hand. The brothers and sisters in the church support by visiting every Saturday morning.

Soweto Women’s Day 2007

Our Women’s Day event this year, held on 9th August, was not like any other Women’s Day that our region has held before.  It was a particularly memorable moment for all in attendance as we had our first ALL NATIONS outreach campaign.

A new addition to God’s kingdom

Lefty Maphale was baptized on Wednesday 1st August 2007.

He was introduced to the church by Victor Negetha, a brother in the Central East Region. Lefty and Victor have been friends since they were young boys in Venda where they both grew up.  They had lost contact for a while, and Lefty was encouraged to meet up with Victor again.  Noticing the changes in Victor’s life, he wanted to know more about the church that Victor was attending.  Victor simply asked him to go to a Sunday service in the North West Region and told him that someone would ask him to study the bible.

Lefty attended the service and met with SN Middel who then asked him to study the bible. A few months later Lefty was baptized.  Welcome to the kingdom Lefty!
